About Me

LMFT #135100

Hello, I'm Laura Picard, a Licensed Family Therapist, and my professional journey has been quite a dynamic one. I earned my Master’s in Clinical Psychology with a focus on Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University in Malibu,CA where I graduated with honors, complemented by my undergraduate degree from Suffolk University in Boston, Massachusetts, my hometown.

Before transitioning into the field of therapy, my professional background included working as a nanny to support my college education and subsequently enjoying a decade-long career in entertainment marketing in Los Angeles, CA. College life was marked by a significant challenge – severe anxiety. Through therapy, I not only navigated this hurdle but also gained invaluable coping strategies and identified triggers.

Realizing my genuine passion for helping others, I made the decision to return to school and become a therapist. The initial phase of my therapeutic career took place at the Venice Family Clinic, the largest free clinic in the country. Here, I worked with adolescents, teens, and young adults facing diverse mental health challenges. It was during this experience, attached to Culver City High School, that I discovered my particular affinity for working with teens and young adults. Additionally, I served as a telehealth therapist for Counseling Partners of Los Angeles, focusing on underserved Catholic schools.

My professional scope also extends to working with entertainment professionals, a facet that holds personal significance for me. Previously, I worked as an entertainment publicist for actors, directors, and comedians and also represented Toyota in product placement. This experience provides me with a nuanced understanding of the challenges faced by individuals in the entertainment industry.

Currently, I am dedicated to expanding my knowledge in the fields of the mind-body connection, the neurobiology of trauma, and supporting individuality. The intricate interplay between the mind and body is a perpetual source of fascination for me. I also hold a vested interest in exploring the correlation between social media and mental health. In addition to personal and professional growth, I'm excited to announce the imminent launch of an innovative app – details are forthcoming.

In my leisure time, you'll find me doing self care that promotes well-being, such as hiking, figure skating, reading, and enjoying nature with my dog, Miley. I have a deep appreciation for the beach and prioritize self-care through nature, movement, and reading. Currently residing in Laguna Beach, CA, I invite you to reach out for more information or to initiate a conversation.
