About Me
LMFT #135100
My name is Laura Picard and I am a Licensed Family Therapist. I earned my Master’s in Clinical Psychology at Pepperdine University with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy and my undergraduate Bachelor’s degree from Suffolk University in Boston, Massachusetts where I grew up.
Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked as a nanny to put myself through college and went on to have a 10-year career in entertainment marketing in Los Angeles, CA. During one of my first life transitions into college, I suffered from severe anxiety and learned many ways to cope and identify triggers in therapy .In another life transition, I realized my true calling was helping others, so I went back to school to become a therapist. The first part of my career as a therapist was working at the country’s largest free clinic, Venice Family Clinic, where I worked with adolescents, teens and young adults with a variety of mental health disorders. I also worked for a non-profit called Counseling Partners of Los Angeles that served underserved Catholic schools as a telehealth therapist. Adolescents and young adults can suffer with a variety of mental health disorders including anger issues, anxiety, boundary setting, depression, cyber bulling, eating disorders, self-esteem issues, social media addiction, struggles with identity, issues with peers/family and challenges with COVID-19. As the demands of the world are increasing and changing so is the need for therapy. In addition, choosing to work with entertainment professionals is personal for me as I worked as an entertainment publicist for actors, directors and comedians. I also represented Toyota doing product placement so I understand the challenging dynamics people in entertainment can face.
As a professional, I am currently growing my knowledge of the mind and body, neurobiology of trauma and how to best support individuality. The mind and body connection is fascinating to me and I am constantly interested in how the two operate. I also have a vested interest in the correlation between social media and mental health. In addition to growing myself each day I am launching an innovative app-- details coming soon.
In my spare time I love hiking, figure skating, reading, travel, nature and my dog Miley!
